Education Minister to Resolve Withheld WASSCE Results Issue

The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education in Sierra Leone is facing a significant challenge with over 25,000 candidates’ results withheld by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) for the 2024 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE). In response, the Ministry has taken swift steps to address and resolve the situation.

Under the leadership of Minister Conrade Sackey, the Ministry has established the Sierra Leone Examination Committee. This committee, chaired by Chief Education Officer Professor Yatta Kanu, will review the circumstances behind the withheld results. A scheduled meeting on November 5th and 6th, 2024, will focus on evaluating each case to identify the root causes and determine a clear path for resolution.

Transparency and fairness are top priorities for the Ministry, with the committee’s meeting marking a crucial step in achieving these goals. It is essential to ensure that each candidate’s case is thoroughly reviewed to uphold the integrity of the examination system.

The Ministry recognizes the potential impact of withheld results on candidates’ educational opportunities and is committed to an expedited resolution. Minister Sackey’s dedication to transforming Sierra Leone’s education system aligns with the government’s vision, led by President Bio, to foster national development and progress.

Affected candidates, parents, and school authorities are encouraged to remain patient as the Sierra Leone Examination Committee diligently assesses and resolves each case. The Ministry will provide updates following the committee meeting to ensure transparency and accountability.

Minister Conrade Sackey’s proactive approach to addressing challenges in the education sector highlights his commitment to improving education quality in Sierra Leone. By working to resolve the WASSCE results issue, the Ministry aims to build a more equitable and efficient examination system that supports students’ academic pursuits.
