Youth unemployment remains a significant challenge in Sierra Leone, but with the right skills, young people can unlock new opportunities for themselves and their communities. The Agnes Bio Foundation, dedicated to fostering self-reliance, is at the forefront of this transformation.
On November 28, 2024, more than 170 women graduated from the Foundation’s vocational training programs at the Bintumani Conference Centre in Freetown. These graduates, who completed courses in DJing, Batik and Gara Tie-Dye, and cosmetology, are now equipped with valuable qualifications that will help them build meaningful careers.
In her keynote address, the Foundation’s founder, Agnes Bio, expressed immense pride in the graduates, commending their perseverance and dedication. “This is not just about acquiring skills; it’s about living with integrity, compassion, and striving for excellence,” she said. “You are the future leaders and change-makers of Sierra Leone, and with determination, you can overcome any challenge.”
Through initiatives like these, the Agnes Bio Foundation is tackling youth unemployment head-on, empowering young people—especially women—with the skills needed to thrive in today’s job market. One of its recent programs in DJing provided free training to 50 young individuals, opening doors to opportunities in the music industry. Beyond technical expertise, this initiative fosters creativity, confidence, and self-sufficiency.
Agnes Bio’s vision of creating an empowering environment for youth to shape their own futures is becoming a reality. The impact of these programs is just beginning, and with continued dedication and support, these young women will play a vital role in Sierra Leone’s growth and prosperity.
The Agnes Bio Foundation’s unwavering commitment to transforming lives through education is paving the way for a brighter, more sustainable future for Sierra Leone.
