VP Launches First Freetown Heat Action Plan

Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh on Thursday, 6 February 2025, officially launched the First Freetown Heat Action Plan at the Radisson Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel in Freetown.

The event, organized by the Freetown City Council (FCC), was part of the African Urban Summit, which brought together mayors, city leaders, councilors, and policymakers from across Africa to discuss urban resilience and climate action.

Speaking at the summit, VP Juldeh Jalloh highlighted the importance of knowledge sharing and collaboration in addressing urban climate challenges. He emphasized that rising temperatures posed life-threatening risks, strained public health systems, increased vulnerabilities, and impacted both energy supply and productivity.

VP Juldeh Jalloh expressed optimism that the Heat Action Plan would drive bold actions, foster strategic partnerships, and serve as a catalyst for urban transformation across Africa and extended gratitude to Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr and the FCC for pioneering the initiative, noting that it will serve as a model for other cities in Sierra Leone and the wider sub-region.
