Statistician-General Elected as Rapporteur of UNSC

The Rapporteur is a member of the Bureau of the United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC), charged with the responsibility of documenting, summarizing, and reporting on the discussions and decisions made during sessions of the UNSC

This prestigious position essentially therefore means that Mr. Johnny will be reporting on the commission’s sessions for 2024-2025, including key issues, proposed standards and agreed-upon actions related to international statistical best practices.

This all-important position is normally entrusted to highly experienced Statisticians with profound expertise in international statistical standards and practices.

Mr. Johnny’s election is a testament to his hard work and dedication to developing  Sierra Leone’s National Statistics office, especially with innovation and technology in data collection methods to guarantee credible data for national development.

Reacting to his election, Mr. Johnny expressed gratitude to President Bio, for the trust and confidence he has bestowed upon him which enables him to effectively carry out his job. He concluded by acknowledging that his election is a reflection of the transformation and good work being done in Sierra Leone’s data collection and analysis sphere, which is now attracting global recognition.

The UN Statistical Commission is the highest decision making body for statistics worldwide which was established in 1946. The commission is responsible for setting statistical standards and methods, including their implementation at the national and international levels.
