Dong Tai Mining Brings Solar Street Lights to Rochen Kamandawu Community

Dong Tai Stone Mining has made a significant impact in the Rochen Kamandawu community in Yoni Mamaila Chiefdom, Tonkolili District by installing 20 solar street lights, each valued at US $200. This initiative is part of the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility, aiming to improve living conditions and educational opportunities in the area.

During an interview, Councillor Abdulai Sesay of Constituency 048 in the Yoni Mamaila Chiefdom emphasized the importance of this project. He noted that prior to the electrification of Rochen Kamandawu, Dong Tai Stone Mining had reached an agreement with the Kamara Mankutta Family, the landowners in the community. As part of the lease land agreement, the mining company committed to electrifying the area to aid schoolchildren in studying effectively through solar energy.

Councillor Sesay pointed out that Dong Tai Stone Mining had previously completed a partial installation of solar lights before this recent extensive installation. He highlighted that the company even financed the welding process required for the solar light installation.

“This solar project will immensely benefit the people of Rochen Kamandawu, particularly school-going children, enhancing their ability to study and perform better academically,” stated Councillor Sesay.

Jack Yu, the company interpreter, explained that Dong Tai Stone Mining is dedicated to strengthening its relationship with the local community. The solar light installation aims to enhance living conditions and provide better electricity supply in key strategic areas, including Check-Point and the Rochen Kamandawu community as a whole.

The installation ceremony was attended by various stakeholders, including a representative of the Paramount Chief of Rochen Kamandawu, the town chief, and the youth leader of Rochen Kamandawu, alongside representatives of Hon. Aaron Aruna Koroma, the Member of Parliament for Tonkolili District. The attendees expressed their gratitude to Dong Tai Stone Mining for demonstrating a strong commitment to community development and welfare.

The positive response from the community highlights the importance of public-private partnerships in fostering sustainable development and improving the quality of life for residents in Rochen Kamandawu
