Bhumi Khusi Enterprise Accused of Tax Evasion

Bhumi Khusi, a retail and wholesale business located at 9 Sani Abacha Street, has come under serious scrutiny after being caught pantdown invading tax and alleged labour law violations

Investigations reveal that the Bhumi Khusi has been deliberately refusing to issue Electronic Cash Register (ECR) receipts to customers, despite repeated requests. Staff reportedly distract customers with delays and busywork to avoid issuing receipts a clear violation of Section 25 (1–3) of the Finance Act 2018, which mandates the use of ECR machines as enforced by the National Revenue Authority (NRA). This act also contravenes Section 34 of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act of 2009 (amended in 2020), which requires all registered GST businesses to maintain ECRs for proper invoicing and transaction records.

Furthermore, Bhumi Khusi is accused of failing to remit contributions to the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) for its employees, while also subjecting them to harsh manual labor and under payment raising serious concerns about workers’ rights and compliance with Sierra Leone’s labor laws.

In light of these findings, calls are growing for swift action. Civil society organizations, the NRA, the Sierra Leone Police, and the Sixth Parliament, especially the Honourable Speaker Solomon Thomas and the Committee on Tradeare being urged to investigate and hold Bhumi Khusi accountable.

The public awaits decisive steps to ensure justice, deter future violations, and reinforce respect for the rule of law in Sierra Leone. We are kindly asking for your timely respond in relation to this issue before press time.
