In a recent press release the Inter Religious Council of Sierra Leone (IRCSL) has called on the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation, to ensure justice is fairly served over the recent brutal killing of Rev. Father Augustine Dauda Amadu in Kenema, a devoted Catholic priest of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kenema, on the 30th of August 2025 by unidentified armed persons who broke into his parish residence overnight.
They express that Father Amadu was a man of peace, compassion, and unwavering commitment to the spiritual and social upliftment of his community and his untimely death is not only a devastating loss to the Catholic Church but also to the broader religious bodies and social fabric of Sierra Leone.
“The IRCSL stands in solidarity with the Catholic Diocese of Kenema, the family of Father Amadu, and all those affected by this heinous act and with with profound sorrow and indignation we condemn the brutal killing of Rev Amadu”, they stated.
They pointed out that, this tragedy underscores the urgent need for continued interfaith collaboration to promote peace, tolerance, and mutual respect across all communities. Violence against any religious leader is an affront to our shared values and threatens the harmony we strive to build in our beloved nation.
They concluded by urging all Sierra Leoneans to remain calm, prayerful, and united in the face of this sorrow and continue honouring Father Amadu’s legacy by recommitting to the principles of peace, dialogue, and love for one another.
