A groundbreaking student-led movement is set to make history in Sierra Leone as Students in Action for Dr. Ibrahim Bangura (Students in 4 DIB) prepares for its official launch. The movement is expected to bring together students from over fifty higher institutions, including universities, colleges, polytechnics, and vocational schools across the country, marking one of the largest student mobilizations in recent times.
This vibrant and dynamic movement is rallying behind Professor Dr. Ibrahim Bangura (DIB), a respected educationist who strongly believes in the power of student leadership and political participation. The students say their aim is to complement and support Dr. Bangura’s vision and ideology, which focuses on empowering young people and strengthening the role of education in national development.
Dr. Bangura’s long-standing relationship with student activism dates back to his early years when he founded and served as the first President of the National Union of APC Students (NUAS) at Fourah Bay College (FBC). His pioneering efforts in organizing and mentoring student leaders continue to inspire many young people across Sierra Leone. The movement has proudly adopted the slogan “Pay Back Time,” which students say symbolizes their appreciation for his invaluable contributions to education and youth development in the country.
Beyond his academic and mentorship legacy, Dr. Ibrahim Bangura is also regarded as one of the leading aspirants within the All People’s Congress (APC). He has consistently preached messages of peace, unity, and party cohesion as the APC prepares for its upcoming national convention. Supporters describe him as a bridge-builder who works tirelessly to strengthen internal party democracy and promote harmony among party members.
Organizers of Students in Action for DIB say the official launch will mark the beginning of a nationwide student-driven campaign focused on leadership, civic engagement, peaceful political participation, and educational advocacy. They believe the movement represents a new generation of students determined to actively shape the future of Sierra Leone through positive action and responsible leadership.
As anticipation builds for the launch, many observers see the initiative as a powerful signal of the growing influence of student voices in national political and developmental discourse.
