Sheikh Alhaji Mohamed Omodu Kamara, widely known as Jagaban, has been honoured with the Philanthropist of the Year 2025 Award, in recognition of his outstanding humanitarian contributions and commitment to national development. The award ceremony took place at Bango Farm in Goderich and brought together eminent personalities from across Africa.
Jagaban, a leading flagbearer aspirant of the All People’s Congress (APC) party, was selected among several notable African figures for his exceptional philanthropic, social, and developmental interventions that have positively impacted communities across Sierra Leone.
Speaking during the award presentation, the Director of Programmes, West Africa Social Media, Mr. Mohamed Samura, said the honour was bestowed on Sheikh Alhaji Mohamed Omodu Kamara in recognition of his lifelong dedication to the growth and transformation of Sierra Leone.
According to Mr. Samura, the award was based strictly on merit, competence, and outstanding performance, noting that Jagaban has consistently demonstrated a genuine commitment to improving the welfare of ordinary citizens through education support, healthcare assistance, youth empowerment, and community development initiatives.
“This award recognises Sheikh Alhaji Mohamed Omodu Kamara’s exceptional use of philanthropy to uplift lives and contribute meaningfully to national development,” Mr. Samura stated. “His interventions have touched many lives and continue to make a visible difference across the country.”
A citation accompanying the award read in part: “This certificate is proudly presented to Mohamed Omodu Kamara (Jagaban) in recognition of his exceptional use of philanthropy across Sierra Leone and his unwavering commitment to social and national development.”
In his acceptance speech, Sheikh Alhaji Mohamed Omodu Kamara expressed profound gratitude to the organisers for what he described as a “great and humbling honour.” He commended West Africa Social Media for recognising individuals who contribute positively to society and reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Sierra Leone.
