In his continued drive to positioning the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL) President, Sahr Morris Jr has travel to Banjul The Gambia on Friday, February 6, 2026 to attend the African Sports Press Association Congress.

The SWASAL President attendance will mark the return of the Sierra Leonean Sports media Association return in the African stage since the last congress in Kenya over 5 years back.

​The proactive SWASAL President will be in The Gambia to represent Sierra Leone at the 8th AIPS Africa Congress, held in Bijilo from February 6–9.

The event is being hailed by SWASAL leadership as a “landmark achievement” that finally integrates Sierra Leone sports journalism into the global and continental framework especially since he took over the helm of affairs, he has piroitied partnerships both local and international and exposure for its membership.

​The SWASAL President expressed deep appreciation to both the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone (NOC-SLE) President, Prince Vandy Sualley and the Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta James-Teima for their consistent support and has been instrumental in building a more “vibrant and credible” Sports Media  institution in Sierra Leone.

​The congress, will be hosted at the state-of-the-art Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre, centers on a forward-looking theme:​“Digital Media, AI, and Ethical Journalism in Africa”

​The gathering aims to equip African journalists with the tools to navigate the rapidly shifting technological landscape while maintaining the core tenets of professional integrity.

​​President Morris will join an elite roster of attendees, including: ​H.E. Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia, ​Gianni Merlo, AIPS Global President, ​Hon. Kofi Adams, Ghana’s Minister of Sports, ​Sports Ministers and Directors from Senegal, Mali, Sierra Leone and Nigeria, alongside legendary continental sports icons.
