Africell & UNDP Join Forces to Combat GBV

In a press release dated 27 November, 2024. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Sierra Leone is pleased to announce a strategic partnership with Africell Sierra Leone to support the nationwide awareness campaign against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) during the global 16 Days of Activism from November 25 to December 10, 2024.

Africell will deliver a series of communication messages, crafted by UNDP, to its nationwide subscribers. These messages aim to raise awareness about SGBV, its profound impact, and encourage individual and community action to prevent violence.

This collaboration seeks to amplify critical messages and drive meaningful change across Sierra Leone. The communication campaign is designed to reach a broad audience, including urban and rural communities, ensuring the message of solidarity and support for survivors of GBV resonates nationwide.

Fredrick Ampiah, UNDP Resident Representative, stated: “We are pleased to partner with Africell Sierra Leone in this critical effort to raise awareness about Gender-Based Violence. Through this collaboration, we can effectively communicate the importance of addressing GBV to a broad audience, leveraging Africell’s vast subscriber base to amplify our messages and empower communities to take action.”

Africell Sierra Leone has long demonstrated a strong commitment to corporate social responsibility initiatives that drive positive change in the country. By facilitating the dissemination of these messages, Africell is helping to educate and inspire action on one of Sierra Leone’s most pressing social issues.

Shadi Gerjawi, Africell Chief Executive Officer, added that: “Africell Sierra Leone is dedicated to creating an empowering environment for women, supported by policies and initiatives that promote gender balance, equal opportunities, and career advancement in the workplace. By partnering with UNDP, we are taking an active role in addressing GBV and fostering a safer, more equitable society.”

The 16 Days of Activism is a global campaign aimed at raising awareness about gender-based violence and advocating for the rights of women and girls. By joining forces, UNDP Sierra Leone and Africell Sierra Leone hope to engage citizens in a national dialogue about ending GBV and provide vital information about resources available for survival.
