The Chief Executive Officer of the African Organisation of English-speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI‑E), Madam Meisie Nkau, paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the Sierra Leone Parliament, Rt. Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas and leaders of the ruling and opposition parties in Parliament. The meeting was held in the office of the Speaker at Parliament on Thursday 27th November, 2025.
The meeting was aimed at deepening collaboration between the legislature and the Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL) through capacity‑building programmes. Madam Nkau highlighted the long‑standing partnership between the ASSL and AFROSAI‑E. She stressed the need for rigorous, evidence‑based audits that can stand the test of time. She said the visit was intended to identify gaps in the audit sector, reinforce internal audit mechanisms and support the Office of the Auditor‑General, ultimately boosting accountability, transparency and service delivery in public institutions.
In his welcome address, Speaker Thomas thanked AFROSAI‑E for its continued support, and noted the strong relationship between Parliament and the Audit Service. Drawing on his experience as former Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, he reaffirmed his commitment to a more effective and reputable audit functions. He assured the delegation that Parliament stands ready to collaborate with initiative that strengthens oversight.
The Deputy Auditor‑General Mr. Morie Lansana, who introduced the AFROSAI‑E team, praised the productive partnership between Parliament and the Audit Service, saying such engagements reinforce accountability and national development.
The visit underscores a shared resolve to enhance governance through robust audit practices and parliamentary oversight.
