Honourable Catherine Zainab Tarawelly, Member of Parliament under the All People’s Congress (APC) representing Makeni in the Bombali District, has delivered a bold and clarifying message to her constituents and Sierra Leoneans at large.
Speaking candidly, Hon. Tarawelly addressed the growing misconceptions surrounding the Tripartite Committee, stressing that its purpose is not to unseat President Julius Maada Bio but rather to strengthen Sierra Leone’s democratic processes.
“The Tripartite was not set up to remove President Bio, it was designed to review our electoral problems and ensure Sierra Leone becomes a more democratic nation,” she explained.
The lawmaker expressed concern over the misinformation being spread by certain individuals who continue to claim that the 2023 elections are unresolved. She described such narratives as misleading and urged citizens to reject them.
“People are going around deceiving others by saying the 2023 elections are not yet over. That is completely false,” Hon. Tarawelly emphasized.
Looking ahead, she encouraged APC members and supporters to focus on the upcoming lower-level elections slated for October. According to her, this process is crucial in identifying and empowering candidates who will be fit to represent the people in the 2028 elections.
“The APC is currently working towards conducting its lower-level elections by October. I want all of you to focus on that process so you can choose candidates you believe are suitable to represent you in 2028,” she urged. Hon. Tarawelly also made a direct appeal to those she described as “deceivers” within political circles.
“Let us stop brainwashing our people by telling them that Dr. Samura Kamara will be installed as president. That is not the truth. What we must do now is to prepare, organize, and strengthen our democracy for the future,” she said firmly.
Her remarks have been widely received as a call for honesty, unity, and political maturity, at a time when the nation continues to heal from the tensions of the 2023 elections.
By choosing to speak openly, Hon. Catherine Zainab Tarawelly has positioned herself as a voice of reason within the APC, reminding citizens that the path forward lies not in false promises, but in constructive participation and truth telling.
