Hon. Osman Timbo, the Deputy National Secretary General of the All Peoples Congress (APC), has officially resigned from his position. He made the announcement during a press conference on March 12, 2025, at his office Jones Street in Freetown.
Hon. Timbo, a respected politician and a member of the Sixth Parliament representing the APC, cited his desire to pursue new steps in his political journey as the primary reason for his resignation. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the APC Secretariat and ensuring a level playing field in the upcoming internal party activities.
In his resignation statement, Timbo expressed deep gratitude to the APC leadership, including the National Secretary General, Lawyer Lansana Dumbuya, the National Chairman, and the Deputy National Chairman, for their trust and support during his tenure. He also thanked Dr. Samura Kamara for his leadership during the 2023 elections, which he described as having been “stolen from the people of this nation.”
Timbo also extended heartfelt appreciation to the APC delegates who elected him at the February 2023 National Delegates Conference, as well as to the party’s supporters who stood by him during challenging times, including his removal from parliament in 2019.
While acknowledging the difficulty of his decision, Timbo stressed that stepping down was necessary to uphold fairness and transparency within the party. He reassured the public that his resignation does not mark his exit from politics or the APC. Instead, he remains fully committed to the party’s growth and success, promising to announce his next steps in the coming weeks.
Timbo’s resignation is expected to have significant implications for the APC’s leadership structure, with speculation already mounting about potential successors and the party’s future direction. Political analysts and party members alike will be closely watching how the APC navigates this transition, particularly as it prepares for upcoming general elections.
In his closing remarks, Timbo called on Sierra Leoneans to remain united in their pursuit of a better and more inclusive nation. He urged the youth to dream big, believe in the power of unity, and work collectively to achieve greatness for Sierra Leone.
