In a press release dated 16 November 2024, Alhaji Amadu Bah, Sierra Leone’s Peace Ambassador, strongly condemned the actions of unidentified youths displaying firearms on social media.
“I am compelled to address a concerning trend that has emerged among our youth — the alarming display of firearms on social media platforms. This behavior is not only reckless but also poses a significant threat to the peace and stability we have worked so hard to achieve in our beloved country, Sierra Leone,” he stated.
The Peace Ambassador emphasized that such actions undermine the efforts of President Julius Maada Bio in promoting peace and security in Sierra Leone. He noted that this behavior sends the wrong message to younger generations and distorts the image of Sierra Leone both locally and internationally.
“As Sierra Leoneans, we must come together to condemn such actions and educate our youth on the value of non-violence, respect, and dialogue. It is imperative that we foster an environment where peace is prioritized, and constructive discussions replace displays of aggression,” he added.
Ambassador Bah called on parents, community leaders, and educators to engage with the youth, guiding them toward positive avenues for expression and encouraging them to reject violence in all its forms.
“Let us work hand-in-hand to ensure that our future leaders understand the importance of peace and the power they hold to shape a better tomorrow. Together, we can create a culture that celebrates harmony and fosters personal responsibility,” he concluded.
This strong appeal from the Peace Ambassador reflects the urgent need for collective action to address this troubling trend and safeguard the stability of Sierra Leone.
