On the 31st March 2026, LICCSAL Business College, an institution affiliated with the University of Sierra Leone and known for producing distinguished professionals across various fields, has formally matriculated newly admitted students at a ceremony held in its auditorium.
Delivering his address, the Registrar, Randoulph L. A. Wilson Esq. underscored the importance of quality, commitment, and integrity in academic life. He urged students to believe in themselves and maximize their potential despite challenges such as low self-confidence and poor time management. He noted that while students possess intelligence and talent, success depends largely on self-belief and the ability to prioritize effectively.
The Registrar further encouraged students to strive for excellence, stating that with determination, they could even surpass their lecturers. He highlighted one of the students, Sir Patrick Sesay for his articulation and dedication, describing him as a model of potential success. The Registrar concluded his remarks with a vote of thanks, citing a Latin expression to convey appreciation.
Also addressing the gathering was the Head of Department for Media and Communication, Eric Batilo Songa, who spoke in his official capacity for the first time. He expressed gratitude and stressed the importance of collaboration and institutional support. Referencing media scholar Marshall McLuhan’s “global village” concept, he described the matriculation as a significant milestone marking the students’ formal entry into academia.
Songa paid tribute to both the students and the journalism profession, emphasizing its vital role in society. He outlined three guiding principles for life: the right to make choices, the consequences of those choices, and the need to pursue positive outcomes. He concluded by wishing the students success and meaningful contributions to society.
In his remarks, the Head of Department for Business Administration and Human Resources, Ibrahim Sopa, emphasized discipline, focus, and academic integrity as essential components of success. He explained that the four-year program is designed to blend theoretical knowledge with practical skills, preparing students for careers in administration, human resource management, procurement, and marketing.
Sopa also highlighted the importance of research as a tool for problem-solving and innovation, urging students to remain determined and resilient. He noted that while the institution provides guidance and opportunities, students must take responsibility for their own success.
Delivering the keynote address, the Communication Manager at the Office of the Ombudsman, Christopher W. Johnson, described the ceremony as a significant milestone symbolizing the beginning of a transformative journey. He encouraged students to embrace curiosity, resilience, and community as guiding principles throughout their academic pursuits.
Johnson described education as a continuous quest for deeper understanding and critical thinking. He emphasized the importance of building strong relationships, maintaining discipline, and contributing positively to society. He also commended parents for their unwavering support and encouraged them to continue guiding their children.
The ceremony concluded with a call for students to dream big, work hard, and uphold the values of academic excellence, integrity, and responsibility as they embark on their educational journey.
