As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment, M.R. Distilleries has provided building materials and financial support to the Old Wharf Community in aid of an ongoing road construction project.
Presenting the donation, the Public Relations Officer of M.R. Distilleries, Mr. Mohamed Kamara, said the gesture was aimed at giving back to the community in which the company operates. He noted that the intervention reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to supporting communities both within and beyond its immediate operational areas.
Mr. Mohamed Kamara emphasized that this was not the first time M.R. Distilleries had come to the aid of surrounding communities and assured residents that management remains committed to supporting meaningful development initiatives across the country. He urged community members to make judicious use of the donated materials and funds to ensure the successful completion of the project. He also called on residents to fully support the road construction exercise, describing community cooperation as key to sustainable development.
The Honourable Member of Parliament for Constituency 114, Dr. Unpha Sorie G. Koroma, commended the management of M.R. Distilleries for what he described as a timely and impactful intervention. He called on other institutions operating within and outside the Old Wharf Community to emulate the positive example set by the company.
According to Dr. Koroma, the road project, when completed, will significantly enhance community development by improving accessibility and safety.
“This road will play a pivotal role in enhancing development and ensuring safety, especially during emergencies such as fire outbreaks,” he stated.
He further encouraged residents of Constituency 114 to embrace and protect development initiatives, noting that government alone cannot meet the needs of every community simultaneously. He added that partnerships with responsible corporate institutions like M.R. Distilleries are essential to accelerating grassroots development.
The Chief of the Old Wharf Community, speaking on behalf of the residents, expressed profound appreciation to M.R. Distilleries for its continued support to the community. He also thanked the Member of Parliament for consistently standing with the people in times of need, as well as other stakeholders who have contributed to the welfare of the community.
The Chief described the road project as timely, noting that once completed, it would boost economic activities, ease movement, and open up the community for further development.
The donation ceremony was attended by several community stakeholders, who collectively praised the management of M.R. Distilleries for its commitment to community development and social responsibility.
