In a press conference held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Secretariat in Kingtom, the Minister of Sports addressed journalists, expressing the government’s immense pride in the national U-20 team.
Speaking both as a politician and a technocrat, the Minister stated, “We cannot speak as politicians all the time. I am also a technocrat, and I strongly believe in the systematic development of our young athletes. If we build them up gradually, stage by stage, we can lay a solid foundation for a stronger national team in the future.”
She reaffirmed that the Ministry of Sports is the supervising body for all sporting disciplines in Sierra Leone and emphasized that her confidence in the U-20 coaching staff, players, and tactical department is unwavering. “I have no doubt in the abilities of the coach, the players, and the tactical department. They are all doing a great job,” she said.
Touching on ongoing tensions within the SLFA leadership, the Minister appealed for unity: “If this country is to enjoy the full benefits of football, the two individuals vying for the SLFA presidency must put their differences aside and work together in the best interest of Sierra Leone.”

Many, especially the youth, believe that President Bio made no mistake in appointing her as Minister of Sports. Dubbed “The People’s Minister” by supporters, she holds the distinction of being the first woman ever appointed to the position in Sierra Leone.
Under her leadership, significant strides have been made across various sporting disciplines. Her love and passion for sports have driven numerous positive changes, transforming the landscape of Sierra Leonean athletics.
In her closing remarks, the Minister wished the U-20 national team the best of luck in their upcoming competition. She encouraged the players to remember the weight of the nation they represent: “You are carrying the hopes of the nation-the green, white, and blue. Stay focused, play with pride, and do your best to bring joy and smiles back home.”
