NASSIT DG Describes Informal Pension Scheme a Game Changer

The Director General of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), Mohamed Fuaad Daboh, has described the proposed Informal Sector Pension Scheme as a “game changer” in extending social protection to the majority of Sierra Leoneans.

He made the statement on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, during a town hall meeting organized by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education in Port Loko, Northwest Region.

Commending President Julius Maada Bio for his commitment to inclusive social protection, Daboh outlined NASSIT’s steps to bring this vision to life. “The national game changer policy has been developed and submitted to the Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security for validation by the Informal Sector Steering Committee,” he noted.

He emphasized the scheme’s expected benefits, including reduced dependence on social assistance, poverty alleviation, economic and labour market stability, improved public health, and enhanced social well-being.

Daboh concluded by assuring attendees that the policy would become law by August and be operational by November 2025. He urged all stakeholders to support the policy’s transformation into law and its full implementation.
