Parents and educators across Sierra Leone are praising the Sierra Leone Free Education Project Secretariat (SL-FEPS) for its continued efforts in transforming the country’s education sector. From providing school materials to training teachers and improving infrastructure, SL-FEPS is being recognized as a major contributor to national development under the Free Quality Education initiative championed by President Julius Maada Bio.
In an exclusive interview, Madam Salamatu Sesay, a single mother, expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the support she has received through the program. “SL-FEPS has wiped away some of the tears I have shed as a struggling parent. They have provided shoes, uniforms, books, and other materials for my children. Since my husband passed away, life has been extremely difficult. I can barely afford three meals a day, let alone school expenses. But now, thanks to President Bio and SL-FEPS, my kids can go to school with pride,” she said.
Educators are also commending the initiative. Mr. Turay, a secondary school teacher, noted the critical role SL-FEPS has played in reviving the educational system. “Our education system was on the decline, but the introduction of the Education Sector Plan by SL-FEPS has made a huge difference. Learning has improved, and teachers are better equipped,” he explained.
Mr. Turay further shared his experience as a beneficiary of a nationwide teacher training program conducted by SL-FEPS, which trained over 500 teachers. “The training enhanced our skills and performance in the classroom. On top of that, the construction and renovation of schools have given the system a real boost,” he added.
As the Free Quality Education program continues, the positive impact of SL-FEPS is being felt by families, teachers, and communities nationwide, reinforcing the government’s commitment to accessible and quality education for all.
