Patrick Sesay, a Year 4 student of LICCSAL Business College pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Media Studies, was officially inaugurated as the President of the LICCSAL Business College Student Union on Saturday, January 18, 2025.
In his inaugural speech, Mr. Sesay described the day as a significant milestone in his journey. He stated, “I stand here deeply humbled and profoundly honoured to accept the responsibility of serving as your Student Union President. This is not just a title but a commitment to serve, to listen, and to lead.”
He expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who believed in his vision and supported his journey. He highlighted the unity and strength of the student body as the driving force behind his mission.
According to Mr. Sesay, his administration will focus on ensuring that every student feels seen, heard, and empowered. He pledged to create platforms where every voice matters, with collaboration as the foundation for success.
“Whether it’s through student-led initiatives, enhanced extracurricular activities, or more transparent communication with the administration, we will build bridges that unite us,” he stated.
Acknowledging the challenges students face, including academic pressures, financial burdens, and personal struggles, Mr. Sesay promised to advocate for policies and programs to address these issues. He committed to expanding learning opportunities and improving mental health support.
He further emphasized the importance of leadership, saying, “Leadership is not confined to titles or offices. Each of you has the potential to lead, to inspire, and to create change. My goal is to empower you to take charge of your future and contribute meaningfully to our shared community. Together, we will nurture a culture of leadership and innovation that extends far beyond our time here.”
The newly inaugurated President pledged to serve with integrity, dedication, and a relentless drive to make the Union stronger, brighter, and better for the benefit of all students.
Muhmmed Sheku Kamara, the Secretary-General, expressed his deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve in his role. “I am committed to serving with integrity, dedication, and purpose,” he said.
He described the new administration as the beginning of a new chapter, not just for him but for the entire cabinet. Kamara encouraged his colleagues to remain steadfast, focused, and committed to making a positive impact. “Together, we can achieve greatness,” he added.
He also appealed to the administration to provide the Student Union with office space to enable them to work effectively as intermediaries between the management and the students.
The inauguration marked the start of a promising tenure for the newly elected Student Union leaders, who aim to bridge the gap between students and management while fostering a culture of unity and innovation.
