The Sierra Leone police have launched a major operation to clear abandoned vehicles and waste from key roads, aiming to restore “sanity” and create alternative routes for the public on Wednesday 14th January 2026 at kingtom.
Announcing the initiative this morning, Director of Police Operations, A.I.G. John Martin Senesi, stated the move is to ensure law and order and alleviate chronic traffic congestion.
“If you look at the main control routes, sometimes when people processions forgot to bury their loved ones, traffic can really congest,” Senesi explained. “But if these streets are clear, it can be an alternative route for people to go about important business.”
The operation, which is already underway, targets vehicles left for decades. Police will tow them to a safe site in coordination with the Sierra Leone Roads Safety Authority (SLRSA).
“The responsibility lies with the traffic department to see how owners will retrieve their vehicles,” Senesi said. He warned that if owners fail to claim their property, police and road transport authorities will “take further steps,” including investigations.
Vowing that the support for SLRSA will continue, Senesi assured the public: “This operation is now ongoing. We will continue this support here.
