possession of cannabis sativa.. 69 years old man committed to high court

Sixty-nine years old Mohamed Mansaray was brought together with three prison in court the defendant was unable to work on it own he is standing trial on two count charges to possession of a prohibited drug without lawful authority contrary to section 8 (a) of the National Drug Control Act 2008, Act No.10 of 2008 and dealing in a prohibited drug without lawful authority contrary to 7 (c) of the National Drug Control Act 2008, Act No.10 of 2008

According to the particulars of offence on Tuesday 28th October 2025 at #107 peninsular Road Goderich the western area in Freetown was found in possession of loosed quality of cannabis sativa and ninety two wraps of cannabis sativa without lawful authority Count two further stated that on the same date and place the defendant deals in a prohibited drug without lawful authority When the charges were read and explained to the defendant no plea was taken The prosecutor Deputy Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh led his witnesses and the file was withdrawn for ruling

Magistrate Fornah before delivered his Ruling ask the defendant what he was using the cannabis sativa when found in his pocket he said he is a sickle cell patient Magistrate Fornah read the statement the defendant made to the police that the allegation made against him is correct on Tuesday 28th October 2025 he was at home processing the cannabis sativa the defendant denied the statement made to the police he said the police write the statement by themselves and show his ankle to the Magistrate and told him that His father Foday Mohamed Mansaray was a retired judge he passed away in 2018

Magistrate Fornah told the defendant that the offence charged is a serious offence he has not to do about it his hands are tied that is why he has lawyer to made an application on behalf of that he further that  having therefore regard to the indictable nature of the offences with which the defendant stands charged before the court it is the duty of the prosecution to adduce sufficient evidence connecting the defendant with the offences charged as so as to warrant a commital of this matter to the High Court for trial having gone through the entire evidence before the court both Formal witness fences together with the exhibits tendered before the court by the prosecution and the voluntary caution and charged statement from the defendant where the defendant admitted to the allegation at the police station he is satisfied that the prosecution has adduced sufficient evidence connecting the defendant with the offences so charged as to warrant a commital of the matter to the High Court he therefore committed the matter to the High Court for trial.
