SLP Sports Unit Celebrates Achievements with Trophy Presentation

The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) Sports Unit recently presented an impressive array of trophies earned across various sporting disciplines to Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Mr. Aiah Edward Samadia in a special ceremony held at the Police Headquarters conference room in Freetown. The event highlighted the unit’s unwavering commitment to excellence and its aspirations for greater success in future seasons.

ASP Martin Jusu Samba, speaking during the ceremony, praised the remarkable performance of the sports teams throughout the league. He lauded the transformation of newly signed players, noting that one player had received two individual awards, underscoring the depth of talent within the squad. He also commended the cricket team’s coaching staff for their exceptional guidance, which culminated in the team winning the league title.

ASP Moses Mambu, the Acting Head of Sports, introduced new foreign female football players alongside their local teammates. He also acknowledged the contributions of a female player from the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) who supported the cricket team during the season. ASP Mambu expressed confidence in the teams’ ability to achieve even greater milestones in the future.

DIGP Aiah Edward Samadia, representing the Inspector General of Police (IGP), accepted the trophies on behalf of the police leadership. He expressed the management’s appreciation for the dedication of the sports teams and their positive representation of the force. Highlighting the role of sports in the SLP’s ongoing transformation process, DIGP Samadia urged the male football team to enhance their performance and qualify for the next Sierra Leone Premier League season. He assured the unit of continued management support, mentioning the procurement of a bus to ease their travel to matches.

Additionally, DIGP Samadia reaffirmed the Executive Management Board’s commitment to expanding the range of sporting disciplines within the force. He noted that IGP Sellu was particularly pleased with the strong performances of the female football and cricket teams.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Zainab Macaulay, captain of the female football team, who pledged the team’s dedication to winning more trophies in the future. The ceremony ended with a group photo featuring the Deputy Inspector General of Police, the sports committee management, and members of the team.
