The Bo School Amplifies the Big Five Game Changers

The Bo School, one of Sierra Leone’s most prestigious educational institutions, has not only stood as a beacon of academic excellence for over a century, but now finds itself at the very heart of the government’s transformative development agenda—the Big Five Gamechangers. Under the leadership of H.E. President Julius Maada Bio, the government’s vision for accelerating inclusive growth is actively resonating through the walls and achievements of this historic school.

The Human Capital Development pillar is clearly reflected in the Bo School’s recent academic and infrastructural strides. With the school’s enrollment now approaching 1,200 students—bolstered by the introduction of new departments in Science, Technology, Economics, and Entrepreneurship—the institution is directly aligning with national priorities to nurture a workforce ready for 21st-century industries.

Moreover, teacher’s welfare and capacity have seen tangible improvement. Bo School’s 100% BECE pass rate and 85% WASSCE success stand as proud evidence in 2024 exams.

The Computer Hub, now fully solar-powered and stocked with over 35 and more laptops—thanks to the PRESIDENT JULIUS MAADA BIO and partners—underscores the school’s shift towards digital literacy and innovation.

Perhaps one of the most symbolic connections to the Feed Salone initiative that the current Minister of Agriculture is himself a Bo School boy. This legacy of leadership is embodied on campus by the launched fish pond project, green house farming, are practical initiatives that will support food sustainability and agricultural education.

The ultra-modern school canteen, meanwhile, ensures students access healthy meals daily—echoing the national ambition to eradicate hunger and improve nutrition.

The Youth Employment Scheme (YES), designed to create 500,000 jobs, resonates strongly with Bo School’s mission to equip students beyond the classroom. With entrepreneurship now part of the curriculum, the school is instilling business thinking and leadership among the youth.

Cultural investments such as the reactivation of the school’s brass band—spearheaded by OBBA, the new sporting facilities like the donated tennis court by the Moinina David Sengeh foster and  preparing students for creative, service, and sports industries.

Public service delivery are evident in Bo School’s improved governance and administration. The school has not only upgraded its management systems but also benefited from support by high-profile personalities, and others who embody the principles of service, merit, and mentorship.

The Bo School is amplifying Tech and Infrastructure for Economic Growth (TIPEG). From the solar-powered Computer Hub, to expanded classroom blocks, and the refurbished school library (now cooled with air-conditioning units), infrastructure investments are making learning more accessible and comfortable.

These improvements are not just cosmetic—they are preparing young minds to compete in a global economy. The government’s vision for improved roads, energy access, and digitisation aligns with what Bo School students are now experiencing firsthand.

As President Bio recently said during a commissioning visit to the school: “The Bo School continues to be a factory of leadership in Sierra Leone.” With the school’s alignment to the Big Five Gamechangers, it’s clear that the legacy is not just being maintained—but reimagined for the future
