Vehicle Scam!! Car Dealer Remanded

A thirty-six years old Tejan Yarjah a business man made another appearance before Magistrate John Manso Fornah of Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown, on two count charges to wit Conspiracy to defraud contrary to law and obtaining money by false pretences contrary to section 32 (1) of the larceny Act 1916.

According to the particulars of offence, on a date unknown between the 1st to 17th March 2025 at Jones Street in Freetown with intent to defraud and conspired together with other persons unknown to defraud Reign Kamara.

Count two further stated that, on the same date and place the accused person with intent to defraud obtained the sum of twenty thousand united states dollars equivalent to four hundred and seventy two thousand Leones (NLe 472,000) from Reign Kamara by falsely pretending that; he have one Wrangler 2014 and Lexus 2014 vehicles for sale knowing same to be false.

When the charges were put to him, No plea was taken.

The deputy superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh led Prosecution witness number one Reign Kamara a car dealer he recognized the accused person as a colleague car dealer, he recalled on the above date he was at his business place and something transferred between himself and the accused person between these dates the accused met him, said to him that his brother in the United States of America has vehicles for sale one is Toyota Tundra and Lexus 2014 and they will sold them to him. The accused said shipment to the Water Quay for the two vehicles will cost forty five thousand united states dollars for each container and they agreed on two containers since he know the accused person.  The first container should contain two Lexus Toyota 2024 model with the sum of ninety thousand United States Dollars and he later told the accused to go to his lawyer for him to proceed with the transaction.

However, they negotiated and the accused told him that he should deposit the sum of twenty five thousand United States dollars but he then agreed to deposit the sum of twenty thousand United States dollars and they went to his lawyer and paid the said amount in front of the lawyer.

After they signed the agreement, he asked the accused to know when the two containers will arrive in Freetown and he answered that in six week time. The said agreement made to the lawyer was produced and tendered in court to formed part of the court records marked as exhibit A.

The witness said after these six weeks period the accused started given excuse and since then he didn’t receive any vehicle or his money from the accused person upon that he reported the matter at the Criminal Investigation Department CID headquarters in Freetown.

The witness said; with the help of the Police he was able to arrest the accused person and he later made statement to the police he concluded.

The witness was cross examined by M. S. Saccoh.

Meanwhile Magistrate Fornah refused bail based on the seriousness of the offence charged and sent the accused person to the Male Correctional facility in Freetown and matter adjourned to the 17th July 2025.
