APC Mayoral Hopeful Pledges Inclusive Leadership for Freetown

One of the leading mayoral aspirants of the All People’s Congress (APC), Hans P. D. F. Doherty, has reaffirmed his commitment to building a just, inclusive, progressive, and people-centered Freetown, with a vision that seeks to leave no one behind in the pursuit of sustainable urban development.

Doherty made these remarks while addressing hundreds of APC grassroots supporters during community engagement meetings held at Culvert and Orogu Bridge in the eastern part of the capital, Freetown.

Speaking to community stakeholders and residents, Doherty explained that the purpose of his outreach initiative was to gain firsthand understanding of the pressing challenges affecting local communities. He identified key concerns such as poor sanitation, youth unemployment, inadequate drainage systems, limited access to quality healthcare services, and the urgent need for sustainable youth empowerment initiatives.

He emphasized the importance of inclusive and collaborative leadership, noting that meaningful and lasting development can only be achieved through strong partnerships involving local councillors, traditional authorities, civil society organizations, community stakeholders, and persons living with disabilities.

Doherty further assured residents of his commitment to promoting practical and sustainable solutions aimed at improving living conditions across the city and reducing flooding caused by human activities in Freetown.

“I want to contest for the office of Mayor of Freetown in the 2028 elections with a strong determination to build on the progress of the current city administration while advancing a bold vision for a cleaner, safer, economically vibrant, and more inclusive Freetown,” he stated.

According to the 2028 mayoral hopeful, his leadership agenda will be guided by accountability, transparency, community participation, and sustainable urban development, all geared toward improving the welfare of residents across the municipality.

The outreach initiative was warmly welcomed by many residents, who praised Doherty’s grassroots approach, accessibility, and willingness to directly engage ordinary citizens on issues affecting their daily lives.

Born and raised in the Kissy community in eastern Freetown, Doherty’s journey has been shaped by vision, resilience, and extensive international experience in the healthcare sector. He began his academic studies at the Sierra Leone Grammar School in 1992 before proceeding to the United Kingdom, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance.

He later moved to the United States, where he obtained a Master’s degree in Forensic Studies and a Master of Philosophy degree. He is currently completing a PhD in Healthcare Finance.

Building on his strong academic foundation, Doherty founded a healthcare company in Maryland in 2017, where he currently serves as Chief Executive Officer. The company has since grown into a multi-million-dollar enterprise employing over 270 staff members, with a strong emphasis on empowering Sierra Leonean and African professionals. He further expanded his business portfolio by launching a second company specializing in behavioral healthcare services
