A resident of 1A Abdulia Lane, Portee in Freetown, identified as Mohamed Jalloh, has reportedly gone missing after being declared wanted by the police in connection with the deadly August 10, 2022 protests in Sierra Leone.
According to sources, Jalloh is affiliated with the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) and is also linked to a group known as “TA TEI KO DI MOVEMENT,” which advocates for Dr. Matthew Wilson Samura Kamara, the APC’s 2023 presidential candidate.
Sources allege that Jalloh fled his residence in Freetown shortly after being declared wanted and reportedly sought refuge in Makeni, Northern Sierra Leone, before escaping again to an unknown destination.
It was further alleged that Jalloh was present when one of his associates, Hassan Dumbuya, also known as “Evangelist Samson,” was shot and killed during the unrest.
Police have reportedly accused Jalloh of being an organizer of the August 10 protest and of incitement allegations considered serious criminal offences. These claims are believed to have prompted his initial escape from Freetown and subsequent movements.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that Jalloh may have either been secretly arrested or possibly killed, though these claims remain unverified at the time of publication.
The August 10, 2022 protests erupted in Freetown, Makeni, and Kamakwie, largely driven by rising living costs, inflation, and growing anti-government sentiment. The demonstrations escalated into violent confrontations between protesters and security forces.
According to official reports, at least 21 civilians and six police officers lost their lives during the clashes. Several police stations were attacked and set ablaze, while security forces responded with tear gas and, in some instances, live ammunition. The government subsequently imposed a nationwide curfew and internet restrictions to restore order.
Authorities have yet to provide an official update on Jalloh’s status or confirm the latest developments surrounding the case.
