Bangura Calls for Fair Pay, Workers’ Protection

Dr. Ibrahim Bangura, Leader of the DIB Movement and APC flagbearer aspirant, has called for improved working conditions, fair wages, and stronger protections for Sierra Leonean workers as the country marked International Workers’ Day on May 1, 2026.

In a statement issued in Freetown, Dr. Bangura commended the resilience and dedication of workers across the country, describing them as the “true engine of national growth and stability.” He noted that from farms and mines to classrooms, markets, and offices, the contributions of workers remain central to the nation’s development.

However, he raised concerns over the harsh realities many workers continue to face, including low wages, limited labour protections, and rising unemployment, particularly among young people. He stressed that these challenges undermine national progress and must be urgently addressed.

“A nation cannot prosper when its workforce is undervalued,” he stated, emphasizing the need for reforms that reflect the true worth of Sierra Leonean workers.

Dr. Bangura further outlined his commitment to promoting an inclusive economic vision that prioritises decent work, fair pay, and skills development. He highlighted the importance of investing in education, strengthening labour institutions, and building an economy that places people at its centre.

He reaffirmed his solidarity with workers nationwide and pledged to champion their rights and aspirations.

Dr. Bangura concluded by urging unity among citizens to build a stronger, fairer, and more prosperous Sierra Leone.
