As part of its commitment to promoting community development, the management of G-Shankerdas and Sons SL Ltd, through its Community Development Action Plan (CDAP), has provided significant support for the pavement of the Palm Bridge Market at Conton Street, Abucombo Junction, in the Wellington community, Eastern Freetown.
During the handover ceremony, the Honourable Member of Parliament for Constituency 115, Lawyer Bah, commended the company’s dedication to community development. He presented the donated building materials, valued at over 13 million, three hundred ninety thousand Leones (NLe 13,390), to community stakeholders.
In his remarks, Lawyer Bah highlighted that while he is not the Minister of Works, his unwavering commitment to his constituents enables him to foster partnerships that deliver tangible benefits. He praised G-Shankerdas and Sons SL Ltd as a leading company in his constituency, emphasizing their passion for advancing community initiatives. He encouraged collaboration between the company and the community to achieve shared development goals.
The lawmaker also underscored the company’s compliance with tax obligations as a crucial contribution to Sierra Leone’s revenue generation efforts. “If the company’s returns are significant, the community can expect significant benefits. Conversely, if returns are modest, the benefits will reflect that reality, as the company invests millions of dollars in importing raw materials,” he explained. He urged the community to maintain a cooperative relationship with the company, which continues to create employment opportunities and remains committed to supporting local development whenever the need arises.
Councilor Isata Lee Sesay also commended the initiative, describing it as a commendable effort by the company. She acknowledged the role of community youth in advancing development and encouraged them to maintain unity and view themselves as critical stakeholders in the progress of their community.
The company’s representative, Mr. Jombla, expressed gratitude for the appreciation shown by community stakeholders. He reiterated the company’s commitment to fostering peace, unity, and mutual support in its operations. “The company is here to stay. We encourage the community to continue working with us in good faith, as we are always ready to support initiatives that drive development,” he assured.
