In response to challenges faced by local communities due to mining activities, Leone Rock Metal Group (LRMG) has launched a Crop Compensation Program to support farmers in affected areas. Over 100 farmers from seven villages across three concession chiefdoms in Sierra Leone have benefited from this initiative, receiving more than 500,000 New Leones in compensation.

The primary goal of the Crop Compensation Program is to mitigate the impact of mining activities on local communities; ensuring farmers can sustain their livelihoods while accessing opportunities created by the mining sector. The compensation enables farmers to reinvest in their land, purchasing seeds, fertilizers, and equipment to enhance their agricultural productivity.
Under the leadership of Mr. Ansu Momoh, LRMG’s Community and Security Director, affected communities in the Tonkolili Mines area have received significant support. The company’s dedication to promoting sustainable agricultural practices has played a vital role in revitalizing the local economy and fostering hope among farmers.

Farmers in the three concession chiefdoms of Bumbuna, Mabonto, and Bendugu have expressed their gratitude for LRMG’s timely disbursement of compensation. The program’s success has been made possible through the efforts of a dedicated team led by Mr. Alusine Kamathor Sesay, with support from the Finance, HSE, and Community Affairs departments.
Through the Crop Compensation Program, LRMG continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting local communities and advancing sustainable development in Sierra Leone. This initiative has contributed to the resurgence of agricultural practices and renewed optimism among farmers.
Additionally, LRMG’s efforts align with President Julius Maada Bio’s “Feed Salone” flagship program, further showcasing the company’s dedication to national food security and community well-being.
