The Moyiba Community Health Centre is urgently calling for the expansion of its facilities due to the rapidly increasing population in the community, which has placed enormous pressure on the hospital’s services.
Currently, there is congestion among pregnant women, under-five children, and patients in the observation ward, making it difficult for health workers to effectively manage the growing number of patients.
As a result, community stakeholders and health workers are appealing to the Government and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to come to their aid by supporting the expansion of the health centre.
Speaking to journalists, the Community Health Officer (CHO) in charge, Madam Marry Sesay, disclosed that the facility lacks several important units, including a family planning unit, laboratory, labour ward, and offices for Community Health Workers (CHWs).
Madam Sesay explained that despite the challenges, she and her team have continued to put in tremendous effort to improve healthcare services at the Moyiba Community Health Centre.
She described Moyiba as one of the fastest-growing communities and stressed the urgent need for government intervention to expand the health centre and provide the necessary facilities needed to serve the increasing population.
The CHO also appealed to the Government to increase the supply of free medical drugs, noting that the community’s population has drastically increased over the years.
Madam Sesay further lamented that some pregnant women continue to ignore the nearest health facility and instead seek treatment elsewhere, which sometimes delays urgent medical attention.
She emphasized that the Moyiba Community Health Centre belongs to the people of the community, especially pregnant women, under-five children, and adults, and urged residents to make full use of the facility. According to her, in emergency situations, patients have the right to access ambulance services for referral to bigger hospitals when necessary.
