Pee Cee Onion Farm Boost ‘Feed Salone’ Drive

The Pee Cee Agriculture onion farm in Lungi is emerging as a key player in Sierra Leone’s push for increased local food production under the government’s Feed Salone initiative. The farm’s growing output is helping to meet rising domestic demand for onions across major markets. Its strategic location near key transport links also enhances distribution to urban and rural areas.

During a recent visit, Julius Maada Bio observed operations at the farm, where large-scale onion cultivation is contributing to efforts to reduce the country’s dependence on imports. He commended the level of investment and innovation being applied in the farming process. The visit also provided an opportunity to engage workers and management on challenges and future expansion plans.

Farm officials say the project is not only boosting onion production but also creating employment opportunities for residents in surrounding communities. They noted that both skilled and unskilled workers are benefiting from the initiative. In addition, training programmes are being introduced to improve agricultural techniques and productivity.

The initiative reflects a growing partnership between government and private investors aimed at strengthening Sierra Leone’s agricultural value chain. Stakeholders say such collaborations are essential for sustainable sector growth. They also emphasize the importance of continued policy support to encourage more private sector participation.

As expansion plans continue, the Pee Cee onion farm is expected to scale up production and serve as a model for similar agricultural investments across the country, reinforcing the broader objectives of the Feed Salone programme. Increased acreage and improved irrigation systems are among the priorities for the next phase. Observers believe the project could significantly influence national efforts toward food self-sufficiency in the coming years.
