On 17 April 2026, the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio, officially commissioned the new headquarters of the National Telecommunications Commission (NaTCA), marking a significant milestone in the country’s development agenda and digital transformation drive. The ceremony brought together government officials, telecommunications stakeholders, religious leaders, and members of the public, all gathered to witness what has been described as a historic step toward strengthening the nation’s technological and regulatory capacity.
The event commenced with solemn spiritual reflections, beginning with an opening Christian prayer led by Bishop Tom Alimamy, invoking divine blessings over the new facility and the nation’s leadership. This was followed by an Islamic prayer delivered by Sheik Alhaji Cherenor Jalloh, who prayed for unity, wisdom, and continued national progress. The dual-faith prayers symbolized Sierra Leone’s spirit of religious harmony and collective commitment to national development.
In his keynote address, President Julius Maada Bio reaffirmed his government’s unwavering commitment to Human Capital Development, stressing that investment in modern infrastructure and technology remains central to national progress. He assured citizens that his administration remains dedicated to fulfilling its promises, particularly in strengthening institutions that support innovation, communication, and skills development. The President also commended telecommunications service providers Orange Sierra Leone, Africell Sierra Leone, and QCell Sierra Leone for their continued efforts in expanding digital connectivity and improving communication services across the country.
Delivering his remarks, the Director General of NaTCA, Amara Brewah, described the commissioning of the new office as a transformative moment for the telecommunications sector. He highlighted that the modern facility is equipped with state-of-the-art IT and communication systems designed to enhance regulatory efficiency and improve service delivery nationwide. According to him, the new infrastructure will significantly strengthen NaTCA’s ability to regulate the sector effectively, promote digital innovation, and support the government’s vision of building a robust digital economy.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Honourable Minister of Communication, Technology and Innovation, Haja Salima Bah, emphasized the importance of technological advancement in driving national development. She noted that the commissioning of the NaTCA office reflects the government’s determination to create an enabling environment for digital growth and innovation. The Minister underscored that improved communication infrastructure will not only boost digital literacy but also empower young people, entrepreneurs, and institutions to harness technology for socio-economic advancement.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling of the commissioning plaque, followed by the official declaration of the building as commissioned by President Julius Maada Bio. The President then proceeded to cut the ceremonial ribbon, symbolizing the formal opening of the modern facility.
